About two seasons ago, the one-shoulder style was so popular that everyone and their mothers were walking around in it. From dresses to tops, this style became the biggest fashion trend as quickly as it disappeared. But have no fear, the one shoulder trend is back and better than ever.
Inspired by the Greek Goddesses, the one-shoulder trend was huge with sleeveless arms. Some people thought the style was ridiculous, but a few months later, the critics themselves were rocking the look. This time around, the look has a bit of a twist. Instead of coming in just sleeveless, we now have the one shoulder long sleeve style.
I personally admire this style. It gives a hint of class to every dress. Something about it screams red carpet, or Kim Kardashian! Back in the day, the look could mostly be found at stores such as Bebe, but today every where from Forever 21 to Wet Seal is going from cheap to chic.
In my previous article,Clubwear: Dos and Don’ts, the Arden B. one sleeve dress was a definite “do” for club wear, especially at 35 dollars. Unfortunately, because that magnificent dress was on sale, it is no longer available. However, I have found some amazing replacements, for an even lower price.
Forever 21 has a very similar dress for only $24.80. It comes in a rich navy color, has one long sleeve, with beading in the front. The Sequin-Embellished Shoulder dress is ruched all around, giving it an elegant look. This dress can turn heads and make for envious stares.
Wet Seal has a black one shoulder dress, and although its one sleeve is sleeveless, it still looks expensive. The texture of the dress is Velour and although Velour is not usually condoned, in this case, it works well. If it were made in any other texture, the dress would look cheap. For $18.50, this dress is a steal.
If you can opt for a more expensive make, despite these economic times, Bebe is sure to satisfy your cravings and your wallet. The Bebe Lurex One Shoulder Mini dress in a Beetlejuice color is absolutely perfect for the holidays. The rich purple color, paired with the 3/4ths sleeve, and the light gold shimmer will make you sparkle. Because it does hug every curve and is possibly a tad too mini, pairing the dress with black tights will make it perfect. Costing a mere 44 dollars, and I say mere due to its label, this dress can be exactly what you need to spice up your closet.
Next time you see a one shoulder style dress, and especially if it has a long sleeve, purchase the dress. Chances are, you will look sexy and classy, and maybe people might mistake you for Kim K.
