Remember the days when country music was so “lame” that if you admitted you listened to it, you were looked down upon? Unless of course you were a 62 year old from Nashville…
Well kids, those days are long gone! With artists like Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood and the ever so adorable Taylor Swift, country music has won over most of the pop audience, including the younger generation. Sure, kids listening to Taylor may not think they’re listening to country music, but you better believe they’ll be tuning into the Country Music Awards patiently waiting for her performances.
The producers of the CMA’s could possibly be geniuses. They had Miss Swift open the show with a cameo by Nancy O’Dell of Access Hollywood. Not only did she perform again, but they stuck her in towards the end of the show, surrounded by a sworm of fans who were quite possibly singing louder than she was. Taylor did a great job with both performances, but I have a feeling the producers knew what they were doing. Taylor ended up winning best female vocalist of the year where she thanked the audience for not running on the stage. Then she went on to win entertainer of the year, beating greats like George Straight and Kenny Chesney. The 19 year old was so genuinely stunned that she even brought me to tears.

The ever so talented Carrie Underwood hosted the show with the sexy Brad Pasley. They sang hilarious tunes for laughs and didn’t forget to poke fun of the country music world’s arch nemisis, Kanye West, who was made fun of again later in the show. That’s three for Taylor, zero for Kanye.
Some other memorable performances included Carrie singing her hit single, Cowboy Casanova, wearing one hot number! Country staple, Reba, sang her hit Consider Me Gone. The Zack Brown Band gave an amazing performance highlighting the fiddle. Daughtry surprisingly graced the country stage with Vince Gill, performing Daughtry’s song, Tennessee Line and Dave Matthews also performed with Kenny Chesney–who knew these pop/rock acts wanted to get into the country scene?
Other than Carrie’s 50 million oufit changes, the CMAs definitely did not disappoint. Heck, most of Twitter’s trending topics were about country music. When else are you going to see that?
The women in country music are absolutely stunning! From classic beauties like Faith Hill and Martina McBride to new commers like Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles and Julianna Hough. It makes me wonder why more men aren’t into country.

As a So-Cal girl, most people find it strange that I am a huge country music fan. What’s even more surprising is that I’m planning to go to Tennessee next year for the CMAs. I’ve practiced my accent and have been working on my Southern charm… Bring it on Nashville!
